Yokohama Rubber starts new OE partnership with BYD—ADVAN V61 tires coming factory-equipped on the SEALION 6 DM-i

Hiratsuka, Japan—The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that it has begun supplying its ADVAN V61 tires as original equipment (OE) for the new SEALION 6 DM-i SUV launched by BYD Company Ltd. in China from this July. The SEALION 6 DM-i is being fitted with 235/50R19 103V size ADVAN V61 tires. This is the first time Yokohama Rubber has supplied OE tires to BYD.

The ADVAN V61 tire being supplied as OE is a premium SUV tire in Yokohama Rubber’s global flagship ADVAN brand range. The tire offers ADVAN’s hallmark premium-grade driving performance, along with a high-level balance of fuel and energy efficiency, handling stability, and quietness, achieving both comfortable city driving and long-distance touring for heavyweight SUVs. The ADVAN V61 is supplied as OE on many premium SUVs, and in addition to the size being utilized on the SEALION 6 DM-i, there is a wide range of sizes available for the replacement market.

The SEALION 6 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid vehicle that combines a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (maximum output 74kW) with an electric motor (maximum output 160kW). It comes equipped with an 18.3 kWh or 26.6 kWh blade battery, which alternatively deliver driving ranges of 93km and 130km. In addition to advanced driver assistance systems coming as standard equipment on all models, the SEALION 6 DM-i’s exterior body design is based on the concept of “ocean aesthetics.”

Under Yokohama Rubber’s three-year (2024–2026) medium-term management plan, Yokohama Transformation 2026 (YX2026), the consumer tire business aims to maximize the sales ratios of high-value-added tires. One of the key initiatives under this strategy is promoting the global flagship ADVAN brand tires and the GEOLANDAR brand tires for SUVs and pickup trucks as original equipment for new cars. In the Chinese market, Yokohama Rubber is aiming to supply more tires for EVs and other new energy vehicles in particular.
